Surrounded by the mightiest mountain ranges in the world, Ladakh is a land of extremes. Half the year cut off by snow, the other half transformed into a high altitude desert. For this is truly a land of extremes.
After an extensive training period, The British Exploring Society dispatched a party of young explorers to carry out mountaineering and scientific studies in the remote Zara valley for six weeks.
For many this was their first taste of the Himalayas. Eyes were set on summiting one of the surrounding 6,000m peaks, but running through everyone’s mind was the fear of succumbing to HACE or HAPE. This is their story.
